Well I'm sad to say that a few weeks ago my sweet 10 month old baby girl has decided she is done nursing. When I first decided I was going to breastfeed I said I would do it for 6 months. Then the 6 month mark came and I said ok 1 more month... and so on ...until I had hoped I would do it until she because a year(or until she got teeth and bit me for the first time) but neither of those happened... she decided she was done on her own. It all started when her pediatrician said she needed to be drinking water twice a day... so I gave her water in a sippy cup... and as she got better and better at it her breastfeeding sessions became less and less frequent. It's now to the point where she will only take liquids from a sippy cup and I'm all dried up. I'm sad we didn't make it to the 10 month mark or longer for that matter... however... I am completely proud that her and I did such a great job and lasted as long as we did.
It was my honey who actually suggested we breastfeed from the beginning... having not breastfed my son I was completely ok with formula feeding... He suggested we take a breastfeeding class and at least out weigh the pros and cons. After the pros were obviously better. I decided I would at least try. I (as most expecting first time nursing moms do)had heard horror stories about how painful it was how hard it was and had little support from anyone but Nick. Well right from the second they handed her to me she latched on and never turned back. I never thought I would enjoy the experience as much as I did... The fact that she 100% completely needed and relied on me.(as exhausting as it was sometimes... and even though sometimes all I did was wish her dad could have gotten up with her.)It was an incredible feeling. I now know that when we have more children (yes when no if) I will be breastfeeding them as well. I also cannot thank my honey enough for providing me with the support that he did to help me succeed and experience such and amazing thing. My sweet girl's first birthday is coming up and everyday gets harder and harder to wake up and see the new things she is learning over night it seems.
I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Just dropping a line to say I just started following you! I'm a 21 year old new mommy looking for blogs to help me on this new journey :)
Oh, I remember all to well when my Little Lew stopped nursing. (For me, it was at 14 months.) I did the same thing you did--I set small goals at first 3 months, 6 months, 9 months...) I was lucky to have nursed as long as I did, but boy did I miss it in the end. It's hard to watch our little ones grow up and become more independent... Have a great day!
HI I found your blog through follow me back tuesday!!!
Cheers! (young mom too lol!)
I have a great giveaway this week : )
I had such a hard time breastfeeding my L...between my emotional state and his extreme hunger and my lack of production, I only lasted a few months. I am hoping and praying to make it as long as you two did!
I so remember the day I quit nursing Lil Sis... Hang in there!
I liked breastfeeding more then I ever thought possible... I totally get where you are now. It was hard when my girl was done too!
Visiting from the hop. I'm following now! I'm playing over on my Everyday Mommy blog.
Happy Tuesday!
Ten months is an awesome accomplishment! My son weaned himself before his first birthday and it made me sad too.
LOL
Pretty baby!
That is about all I can come up with on a breast feeding post. Not that I don't like breasts, nor do I dislike breat feeding kids, just ya know.
anyway!
Pretty baby!
Good for you for making it this long. It's hard and a lot of woman aren't able to do it for long at all...me being one of those. Just be glad that she likes a sippy. I have a feeling that getting my 10 month old off the bottle is going to be a nightmare!
Thanks! That was very encouraging to read..I plan to breast feed and love to read about mommys who really enjoyed it.
My daughter weaned herself too. I was prepared to go it the year but at nine months she had decided she was done. With my son, unfortunately, my supply just was not there. Had to supplement with formula at 2 months and by 3 we were completely done. Weird how that can happen. Good luck with your future babies...hope you don't have the issues I did!
precious post! Wow, I am proud of you for doing so wonderfully with it, I am sad to say that I only lasted 2 weeks with both my boys...but it looks like she's enjoying the dirt too :) Super sweet!
I've let my children self-wean and it is always a bittersweet day when you realize they are finished!
I do have to say that I find it odd that your doctor said she "should" be drinking water twice a day from a sippy cup. While my children were offered juices and water from a sippy cup from time to time my doctor never once mentioned or even asked about it. As long as they are breastfeeding there is no actual "need" to drink anything else, though around a year old it is nice to get them used to a cup.
Anyhoo...I just recently ran across your blog and enjoy it! :)
aww :) well be glad you had the time that you did...when my sister had her first child, she never really latched on and after struggling with it for about two months she finally just quit trying and went to bottles. so you got quite a lot of time compared to others!
Your baby is adorable!
Hope you will get a chance to enter my giveaway of a $50 gift card to Bed Bath and Beyond.

How wonderful that your daughter weaned herself!! That'sgreat. I LOVED nursing my four kids - it was such a great experience for me.
I think you did GREAT for just "trying it out" and sticking to breastfeeding for nearly 10 months! I nursed all three of my girls for the first year or so, and you're right - while exhausting, it is so gratifying to know you are doing everything you can to give them a great start! Thanks for the follow @twirlsncurls.blogspot.com, following ya back!! BTW, those pics of your daughter are tooo cute!
What a sweetheart she is! I just stopped breastfeeding my son as well, he just turned 1, which was my goal, but it was a tough one.
Hi There, I am you newest follower.
I would love it, if you would come join me at Follow Us Monday Morning at Frugality Is Free.
I pumped breast milk for 13 months for my son to drink from a bottle because he was premature and never latched on to the breast from the get go. He got the good nutrition and we snuggled during "milk milk" time so that was a blessing. He is going on 4 yrs old and still a super snuggler. We bonded just fine not having a traditional breastfeeding experience! :)
