I have to say after falling in love with the MTV reality show 16 and pregnant, I thought I would have the same feeling when they did the spin off Teen Mom. As a teen mom myself there was a lot of thing I could relate to with these girls. I had to work hard to graduate from high school, suffered with single mom hardships, and had to battle my way through situations that no mother should have to go through(let alone a teenager) I had to work very hard to keep my son healthy and happy. I experienced the stereotype and negative looks from people when they saw me with my son and saw how old I was, I never understood why people had to judge me by my age when they knew nothing about my mothering or the love I had for my child no matter how much help I had or didn't have; Until I watched Teen mom. This show is by far the most frustrating show on TV right now. I feel like MTV picked the worst Teen parents in the world (yes im sure the tactic in mind was to scare other teens from being in this situation. Understandable) However... These girls let their children run around around everywhere, they refuse to get an education (some of them) they cause so much drama with parents and family members acting completely immature especially in front of these sweet babies that have no idea whats going on, its ridiculous! This is why I as a teen mom got tons of evil looks and stares from the older generations. I am not saying we haven't had our trials and my errors ... but what mother hasn't. (we just dont do it all over national television and make ourselves look like bigger idiots by acting like spoiled brats, use our kids as pawns to get what we want, and teach our kids its ok to act like idiots!
Alright Im done complaining!!! lol

I agree with you. Every week that I watch, I get a little more horrified. A few of my friends were teen moms, and I can tell you that they never acted like that. Ever.
I agree with you.. though completely addicted to the show, I am so frustrated! Especially since I am a teen mom from Indiana (Which both Amber and Katelynn live!). I am now a 23 year old with a 1st grader.... but I feel so badly for the examples these girls are leading and their children! Some of them are exactly the stereotype people perceive teen moms to be!

could not agree with you more! Very true. Sorry that you were treated so harshly by the public. I can't even imagine. I, like you enjoyed watching 16 and pregnant, I think it did a good job of showing the good and bad that comes along with teen pregnancy, but you are SO right about Teen Mom, it represents teen pregnancy as nothing more than a game to these girls, they are spoiled and make sure the camera sees all the "bad" moments in their lives. Wow, the examples they are setting for those children...bad. I had a friend that got pregnant in high school, and although she had her struggles to say the least-she NEVER acted like that, EVER. Hang in There and watch Jersey Shore instead, like we do :) Hahahaha!
I couldn't believe my eyes when one week, Farrah had Sophia sitting in the sink in getting a bath, alone. Farrah was in the living room! The baby turned on the water faucet and the water was hot and she burned herself.
Then the next week, left the baby unattended on her bed while she walked away into the bathroom and shut the door! Of course the baby fell off the bed. Really? I have kids waaaay younger than her, who would no better not to do those things with their baby sister.
I have to admit, I watch Teen Mom. If I catch it during the day I spend most of the show texting my husband, telling him things like "can you believe they just let their baby run around the store?" I seriously want to punch Farrah in the face, drop kick Amber, have a stern talking to with Macy, and tell Caitlynn that it is going to be alright, but she needs to let go of the every day comments about giving her daughter for adoption. That one would be followed with a hug.
So yea, I am 31, and I watch that show... something is seriously wrong with me.
I agree with you on this, they always pick the worst parents and it creates a negative stereotype. I know people who have had children in their teenage years and they are fantastic. But then there are the select few who are total waster who do not look after their kids and they make everyone else look bad.
People should judge parents on their ability not by their age. It also makes no sense because not all that long ago it was totally normal to have children at a young age. My gran had my mam at 17 and she was normal. My great gran had her at 16 and it was totally fine.
However i must admit I am addicted to the show. Amber is an awful parent, she is always screaming at her partner and swearing in front of her child. It is disgusting. Farrah is a slut, I am sorry but she is. She cares more about boys and her appearance than her child. I feel sooo sorry for her mother who has to look after the kid more often than not.
Long post but I could rant all day about this show and the awful parents in it.
I couldnt have said this better myself. I feel the same way about this show. I had my son at 17 and wish this show was on at that time so people could see we arent all horrible like the girls on this show.
I don't watch the show, but the sad thing is, when it comes to casting shows, they will go for whatever leads to the most drama, no matter how tacky or wrong. At the end of the day all they care about is ratings. If they were to show actual teenage moms doing a good job raising normal kids and doing it with pride while getting their educations, they'd probably get half as many viewers. Sad really.
I couldn't agree more! Although I wasn't a teenage mother, a lot of my friends were and judged for it. The girls (and guys) on that show are nothing short of ridiculous! The only one that seems to have an ounce of sense is Macy BUT her sense is MINIMAL! Who takes their young son to a college dorm for a sleepover!??!?!? And don't even get me started on Amber and Farrah!!! I completely understand why you would hate their behaviors!
And on a side note...stop encouraging people to enter your giveaway, I want to win! ;)
I love teen mom. I think its a great show and I also think that if anyone forms opinions of teen moms based off of 4 teen girls that are on an MTV reality show then they are idiots.

Thanks a bunch!
Scary how people act....and on TV for all to see? Goodness gravy....
Hey, Love your blog, I can tell you worked hard in it. Gorgeous!
What about Ferrah leaving Sophia in the hallway!!!! OH MY GOODNESS! I'm a young single mom and I don't see that as any excuse...! If anything these girls should be trying to break the stereotype! I will say I do love Maci though.

My sister was 19 when she had her first child and she sounds like some of the girls on that show. She has since turned into a better mother, thank God, but she still causes a lot of drama in our family, dates inappropriate guys, etc. Some people will never learn :-/
I was a teen mom too. I was just telling a friend how the show annoys me so much! they are the worst parents ever, and make it look way more dramatic then it is. but i guess that's why its reality t.v.
